Church Tradition
Death
Tradition: sawn in half by King Manasseh
Source: Martyrdom of Isaiah (2nd century apocryphal); possibly referenced in Hebrews 11:37 ("sawn asunder")
The apocryphal Martyrdom of Isaiah (2nd century) states Isaiah was sawn in half with a wooden saw on the orders of King Manasseh. Many scholars believe Hebrews 11:37 ("they were sawn asunder") alludes to Isaiah's death. This tradition was known to early church fathers including Justin Martyr and Origen.
